I had my ICL treatment under Mr Hamada at the London Cataract Centre and Focus Clinic one week ago. I am absolutely thrilled with my treatment. Mr Hamada gave so much of his time to ease my fears and answer my (many) questions thoroughly before deciding on the right treatment for me.

The best friendly team and the surgeon Mr Samer Hamada. I had my surgery in March 2020 after I lost my vision in my left eye over 25 years ago. The surgery went really well, completely pain free, and I am thrilled with the outcome.
Do You Suffer From Any of These Problems?
Very Blurred Vision
You may have high or very high prescriptions and typically very blurred vision without glasses because of a high prescription.
Visually Handicapped
You may have the worst vision among people seeking vision correction, and in fact have the greatest need for some form of treatment.
Lack of Treatment Available
You may have assumed there was no treatment possible, because your eyes were simply ‘too bad’.
Uncomfortable Glasses or Contact Lenses
Glasses for high prescriptions can be heavy and uncomfortable to wear you can become intolerant of your contact lenses over time, and have to resort to wearing heavy lens glasses.

These sorts of vision problems are serious long-term issues and can affect your day-to-day life.
Visually Handicapped
Because of the high prescriptions found in potential ICL candidates, you are often visually handicapped if you don’t wear your glasses or contact lenses, e.g. if you lose or break your glasses or a contact lens/es comes out.
Low Confidence
The glasses for high prescriptions are often unflattering ‘bottle ends’. You can hate how you look in these types of glasses.
Dry Eyes
You may be worried about stories you have heard about getting dry eyes after laser eye surgery.
Unsuitable for Treatment
You may have been upset after being (incorrectly) turned down by other laser eye clinics as not suitable for correction, because of having too high a prescription, a potentially weak cornea or suffering from dry eyes.

I am so happy with my choice to go here for my surgery. The process was easy, well explained to me and they all put me at ease on the day of surgery! I was so nervous beforehand but was in the right hands and wouldn’t choose anybody else to have my surgery with. I cannot recommend Dr Hamada enough, he has done a brilliant job on my surgery and the aftercare is amazing!

Mr Hamada gave so much of his time to ease my fears and answer my (many) questions thoroughly before deciding on the right treatment for me. I was not suitable for laser treatments due to autoimmune disease, high prescription, and dry eyes. I was initially unsure about ICL as I was worried it is more invasive compared to the laser surgery, but I could not be happier, and I am glad I trusted Mr Hamada.

You'll Have Full Confidence in Exceptional Results
We're extremely proud of the quality of care and aftercare London Cataract Centre provides and so will you be.
- With ICL implants, the cornea is not disturbed and so the procedure does not lead to dry eyes postoperatively - the lubrication of your eyes will be just the same as before because the cornea remains undisturbed, so worsening dry eyes is not an issue.
- ICLs can correct standard prescriptions, but are also available for high or extreme short-sightedness. So if you have been turned down for LASIK, you could still have ICLs.
- ICLs are suitable for almost all high or extremely short-sighted prescription ranges.
- No regression of the effect of the permanent ICL implant. Sometimes, laser eye surgery for very high prescriptions can lose some of its benefit over the years. With ICLs, the correction of the implanted contact lens is permanent.
Vastly Improved Vision in Just 15 Minutes Per Eye
A straightforward, safe, and painless procedure can help restore your confidence, eliminate your dependence on glasses or contact lenses, and significantly and permanently improve your vision.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How much does ICL surgery cost at Focus Clinic?
ICL surgery costs £3750 per eye (£7500 for both eyes). This price includes all the aftercare.
Who is a suitable candidate for ICL?
The ideal candidates for the ICL surgery are between the ages of 21 and 45, with moderate to severe myopia or moderate hyperopia. Patients that have not had any previous eye surgery and do not have any previous history of eye disease such as iritis, glaucoma or diabetic eye disease. ICLs can be used to treat myopic prescriptions up to -18.00, astigmatism up to -6.00 and hyperopic prescriptions up to +10.00.
What are the benefits of ICL?
- ICL is capable of correcting a wide range of myopic and hyperopic prescriptions without the need to remove corneal tissue or making any permanent modification to the cornea.
- When properly implanted, the ICL provides predictable results and quality of vision due to its location inside the eye.
- The lens is made of a biocompatible lens material called Collamer (comprised of Collagen and Polymer) which is well tolerated by the eye and generally doesn’t degrade for approximately 150 years.
Does ICL dry out, move or collect dirt like a normal contact lens would?
No.The ICL is designed to remain in the correct position within the eye without any maintenance. It does not dry up or get dirty like a normal soft contact lens typically would.
What aftercare does ICL involve?
Typically, an ICL patient would have a check-up the day after surgery, 3-4 days post-surgery, 1 and 3 months post surgery. A yearly examination by your eye surgeon is recommended to make sure that everything is unchanged and well tolerated.
Is ICL visible to the naked eye?
No. As the ICL is positioned behind the iris, neither you, or anyone else will be able to see the lens in place. The visual appearance of the ICL is unnoticeable, and there is no way for anyone other than a trained professional to see that the ICL is in position.
What does ICL surgery involve?
The ICL surgery is performed on an outpatient basis, which means that you can have the implant surgery and go home the same. As with any surgery someone will have to drive you to and from surgery. Either numbing drops and/or a local injection will be administered so that there is very little discomfort and normally no pain associated with the implant procedure. Some drops or perhaps oral medication may be prescribed and a visit is usually scheduled the day after surgery.
What is the typical recovery time for ICL?
The typical recovery time for ICL is 24-48 hours.
Is ICL reversible?
Yes. Unlike other vision correction procedures, the ICL lens itself can be removed by a surgeon if absolutely necessary.
How long does the procedure take? Can both eyes be treated on the same day?
The procedure typically takes 30 minutes. Yes, both eyes can be treated on the same day as long as deemed suitable by the surgeon.
